Gateway to the World Library is located in Edinburg Texas and is part of South Texas ISD. The purpose of the summer reading program is to encourage students to read for pleasure during their summer vacation. Out read the Librarian is so that students continue to read anything they like as long as it is within their reading level. Students in 7th & 8th were encouraged to participate in this program. The estimated number of students enrolled was about 100. Students will need to record their books on a reading log with only the title and author required. All forms will be collected the first week back to school. Students that participate in the program will be treated to an ice cream social in September. During the social prizes will be raffled off to students. Prizes include free books, gift card to barns & noble, movie Gift card, food certificates and an I-pod. Students will also get their picture taken for a display that will read "I out read the librarian" for all to see. Students will also receive a certificate of completion. There will be no top winner because the goal is to get students to read and participate in the summer reading program. Everyone is a winner. Students are also provided with required summer reading list online for their upcoming English classes. Students can get a head start on reading. Also the librarian took the book club to visit the Sekula Memorial Library to expose students to other reading programs, activities and events they can participate in the summer. The YA coordinator spoke to the students and provided them with information on the summer reading program. This library meets the needs of all its middle school students by encouraging them to read anything, anywhere and anytime. |
